Pre-operative Instructions

The following instructions may be helpful when preparing for your upcoming treatment. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any last minute questions.

Aspirin and Non-steroidals: It may be important to stop taking aspirin and non-steroidals, 7-10 days prior to your surgery.

Warfarin: If you are taking Warfarin or another blood thinner, you should not change this drug dosage or frequency without specific instructions from your doctor. Please continue to take them as you have been instructed by your doctor. Stopping them could increase your risk of a stroke or heart attack. However, if we are planning a significant surgical procedure we will consult your general medical practitioner or medical specialist as to whether you need to discontinue the drug for a period prior to treatment.

Please alert the office to any allergies or sensitivities that you might have to antibiotics. You will be prescribed an antibiotic if our Periodontist determines it to be necessary. Take as directed until the course is completed. Some antibiotics require to be taken with food but this will be confirmed by your pharmacist. For women taking birth control pills, be advised that antibiotics may interfere with their effectiveness. Please check this with your pharmacist when you fill the prescription.
